Share
Searching for a unique and meaningful way for kids to celebrate with Dad this Father's Day? This Father's Day Shirt Card is one of the most adorable and creative Father's Day crafts your child can create! With just a few paper supplies, children can construct a fashionable shirt-and-tie themed card that will make any father smile from ear to ear.
This handmade DIY card is perfect for toddlers and early learners because it is not only enjoyable to make but also promotes important developmental skills. This activity, whether for the classroom or a nice family craft session at home, brings play-based learning to life.
Materials Needed
To make this adorable Father’s Day card, gather the following:
- A4 size blue cardstock (for the card holder/shirt)
- A5 size white cardstock (for the inner message section)
- Patterned cardstock (for the tie and pocket)
- Scissors
- Glue stick or white glue
- Black marker (for details)
- Ruler and pencil (optional)

Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Fold the Shirt Base
- Start by placing the A4 blue cardstock horizontally. Fold the left and right sides inward, about 7.5cm each (option: measure and draw guide lines) to meet in the center.
- Glue both flaps down to create a neat card holder that resembles a shirt.

Step 2: Trim the Card Holder
- Cut 2cm off the bottom of the blue card holder to shorten it slightly. This will allow the inner message area to fit nicely inside.

Step 3: Cut the Inner Card
- Take your A5 white cardstock and trim it to match the new size of the blue card holder. This will be where the heartfelt message goes inside the shirt card.

Step 4: Create the Shirt Collar
- At the top of the white cardstock, leave a 2cm gap from top (option: measure and draw guide line), then cut 3 to 4cm wide slits from both left and right sides.
- Fold these cut flaps downward to form a shirt collar.
- Trim any excess and glue the top portion of the flaps to secure the collar shape.

Step 5: Make the Tie
- Using your patterned cardstock, draw and cut out a fun tie shape. You can use stripes, polka dots or even let the kids color in their own design!

Step 6: Attach the Tie
- Glue the tie just under the collar area on the blue card holder. This gives the card a polished, shirt-and-tie appearance.

Step 7: Add a Pocket
- Cut a small pocket shape from the same or different patterned cardstock.
- Glue it onto one side of the blue card.

Step 8: Decorate the Collar and Pocket
- Encourage kids to add their own designs with a black marker. Maybe some stripes on the collar or stitch lines!

Step 9: Write the Message
- Now, open the card and have your child write or draw a message on the white cardstock inside. You can help younger kids write a simple “Happy Father’s Day” or let them draw a family portrait.
